Bikeboost for schools, workplaces, communities

A unique travelling service combining tuition with cycling experiences

Our Bikeboost team can offer anything from day-long get-into-cycling ‘classes’ for a single group, to timetabled two-hour sessions, each for a different group of participants. They can be tailored to your requirements, involving the right cycles, tuition techniques and activities. Anything from activity days for schools to workplace seminars, from fix-and-ride sessions with young people to electric bike info and try-out sessions. Bikeboost events help build up knowledge, confidence and practical skills so participants can get cycling, or enjoy cycling more.

Experiences for Life

Our clients book us to visit their workplaces, schools, universities, neighbourhoods, community groups and festivals. We bring the appropriate tutors, cycles, equipment and techniques, working in community centres, sports halls, schools, parks, etc. A ‘generic’ Bikeboost for the general public will consist of opportunities to try out different types of bike, demonstrations of clothing, saddles, safe riding advice, cycle maintenance/puncture repair demos, cycle security demos, and a lively Q and A session. Bikeboost can be delivered to virtually any skill level, but all participants receive a copy of our own 32-page ads-free guide for newcomers to cycling. The session can end with a short bike ride planned and led by a local cycle trainer.

Making it work

Single day visits are feasible and affordable in and around Yorkshire but we often go on Bikeboost regional tours for a week or a month. These are very popular in Scotland!

We provide you with publicity materials and ideas, but don’t recruit participants for you. However, we can set up an Eventbrite booking facility for you or the local hosts to manage. You may wish to make a small charge to participants, to help cover costs. A typical scenario might be three two-hour sessions of 12 participants, so 36 newly empowered and enthused cyclists in a day! Ideal venues combine outdoor and indoor space. A marquee in a park works well. We are always happy for local cycle trainers and other professionals to take part on the day, adding their skills and local knowledge.

Bikeboost for Schools and Colleges

We have visited over 800 schools, bringing exciting, practical and educational experiences to primaries, secondaries and special schools. We typically work within the PE timetable, a whole class at a time, with two rotating groups. So around 150 students daily. We combine bike-try-out and skills sessions with classroom-based cycling insights and maintenance tuition. We bring our own lively presentations and teaching materials. One school has booked us every week for a year! We have other techniques for after-school clubs and holiday activity providers: and for Brownie, Guide or Scout groups. We also visit colleges and universities.

Bikeboost for Workplaces

Our workplace engagements usually consist of bike doctors, maintenance tuition, commuter bike try-out opportunities and get-into-cycling seminars. Some companies invite us to bring our pedal-powered arcade bikes and junior cycle track to their annual staff fun days. We can also organise staff cycle rides and weekend breaks. We have provided bespoke Bikeboost activities at regional workplaces of single corporate companies and have run many large scale bike loan and support programmes for corporate companies, under our Bikeboost brand.

Bikeboost in York

At the other end of the spectrum, local community, schools and workplace groups can come to us for a full, bespoke Bikeboost day or afternoon session at your chosen venue or location. This includes bike try-out, basic skills sessions, familarisation with equipment, maintenance tuition, Q&A sessions and a short local guided group ride around virtually traffic free lanes. Basic mountain bike handling can also be included, as can training sessions on the University’s banked velodrome: something not for the faint hearted! Bikeboost at York Sports Village is a sociable, fun event, usually configured to the needs of would-be and hesitant cyclists.
