Trustees Wanted 2026

We’re on the look out for people to join our friendly volunteer board of trustees. We are currently looking for an experienced accountant to fill our Treasurer role (as an advisor as we already have an appointed accountancy firm who handle our finances), and we also welcome individuals who wish to join without a specific role.

What skills are needed?

You don’t need any specific skills or board experience to be a trustee, you just need to have a passion for cycling or social inclusion, and some relevant experience in business, charity or social enterprise roles. If you have knowledge and experience with grant and funding applications, or charitable governance and legal requirements, this would be an advantage.

You also must be over 18, be willing to apply for at least one share (at £1 each and to be approved by the board of trustees) and support our charitable aims as a Community Benefit Society. An Enhanced DBS certificate is required, but we can apply for this on your behalf free of charge. Free support and training is available too if needed. Trustees are usually appointed for 3 years, but you can renew this or step down at our annual general meeting (AGM).

We meet around every two months in York in person and/or virtually (hybrid), but there is no obligation to attend every meeting and we can reimburse reasonable expenses.

Why become a trustee for Everybody’s Cycling?

There are many great reasons including:

  • to provide positive support for a good cause
  • a way to use your experience to help make us stronger, so we can help more people
  • putting a particular skill set to good use
  • remaining active in the community
  • to give something back and to make a difference
  • to meet like-minded people in your local area
  • engagement in something vital and stimulating
  • opportunity to help on inclusive cycling events
  • because you want to help people to get cycling, love cycling and keep cycling!

It is a good thing that people want to be trustees, whatever the reason, because without them there would be no charitable and community-led organisations improving the lives of almost every person in the UK. Without our Trustees, there would be no Everybody’s Cycling.

What are the aims of Everybody’s Cycling?

Everybody’s Cycling aims to encourage people of all ages and abilities to experience the wellbeing benefits of cycling through events and activities. We aim to educate and inform people on the health benefits of cycling, as well as the environmental and financial benefits of cycling. We aim to break down the barriers to cycling and make cycling more inclusive.

Our official aims (objects) as outlined in our governing document:

The objects of the Society shall be for the public benefit for the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular by the provision of facilities for cycling, including but not limited to, advancing the education of the public in the benefits of cycling and through the provision of training and facilities to enable participation in cycling activities – with an emphasis on disability cycling, that are designed to relieve sickness and preserve the health among people residing permanently or temporarily in Yorkshire and the rest of the UK.
